Iran, Latvia stress expansion of bilateral ties

London, IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador in Latvia met the Latvian President Egils Levits on Friday when both sides emphasized the necessity of expansion of bilateral ties.

In the meeting, Levits commemorated the 100th anniversary of recognizing Latvia’s independence by Iran and establishment of diplomatic ties between Tehran and Riga.

He said that both countries have good capacities in transportation and agriculture sectors which should be leveraged.

He also noted that Latvia was interested in cooperation with Iran on economic, scientific and cultural areas.

Masoumifar said that Iran never recognized occupation of Latvia after the World War II and this served as a firm pillar for keeping and expanding friendly ties between both nations.

In addition to agriculture and forestry, Iran and Latvia can cooperation in such areas as medicine, petrochemical products, exports of goods and services, joint investments and technology transfer.

Both sides confirmed continuation of political dialog, expansion of parliamentary ties, forming parliamentary friendship groups, cultural, scientific and academic cooperation, boosting Persian language education in Riga University, student and professor exchange, and cooperation between research institutes of both countries.
